Wearing Less & Going Out Slightly More: Summer Wardrobe Haul!

Wearing Less & Going Out Slightly More: Summer Wardrobe Haul!

On one hand you have your introverts and homebodies, and on the other you have your extroverts and everywhere-but-home-bodies. Then, in that area where the top half of your pinky fingers touch but not the bottom half, you have your mostly introverted individuals who if you invite them somewhere that’ll allow for them to get dolled up and have a good time, they can be extroverted. That’s where I fall. I love being in the comfort of my home, but I also love traveling, eating good, tasty drinks, and having new experiences. While the latter is only the case 30% of the time, you better believe I’m going to make sure my wardrobe is prepared for any occasion that’s presented to me.

I have my usual websites that I shop from if I’m on the hunt for something specific, but often, I fall into the social media ad trap which is how I come across new websites to add to the list. It’s dangerous because the ad will show you that ONE item that you didn’t know you needed, and then before you know it there are 10 more items in your cart that you didn’t know you needed. For me, that’s why wardrobe hauls are even a thing to begin with.

With that being stated, I’ve bought enough items over the last few months that I feel are absolutely share-worthy. I’ll be linking the deets on where I bought everything if still available, if not available, I’ll try to link something similar. I’ll also share some styling tips that you can apply if you do decide to buy the item. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

• • •

Keeping it very casual, the first few items I’m talking about were bought for comfort and convenience - comfortable because of the soft material and convenient because they’re one piece.

It’s no secret that dresses and jumpsuits are two of my favorite garment types because they cater to the side of me that desires to be cute with minimal effort. Also, no secret of mine, is that I love a good bargain, so for something such as these I’d like to stay under $20 for each. Definitely not hard to find at a place like Tj Maxx, so I actually have to be extremely careful when I’m in there and in the mood to spend some moolah.

IMG_0104.jpg

Again, casual pieces, so when it comes to styling I’d keep it simple. I’ve worn them all with sandals, and as far as the tie-dye looks I’ve worn them with a pair of white platform sneakers as well. The striped jumpsuit, while just a little less casual, I’ve dressed it up with a pair of low block heels and even a blazer if I know I’m going to be somewhere that could potentially be cold. That’s one thing I will always be prepared for, so if not a blazer, I’ll most likely have either a cardigan or denim jacket on hand which would also be suitable for both the tie-dye looks.

Just recently, I wore the tie-dye jumpsuit on the plane to New Orleans. Being comfortable was a must, but leggings and a t-shirt weren’t going to cut it. Airport etiquette says to never look like a bum because of the opportunities you could have to meet and network with different people. Not saying you have to wear your best fit, but at least aim to make a decent first impression.

Moving on to more of a casual-cute category, the next few items I have are perfect for a brunch date or a variety of social gatherings. If you love pieces that are going to allow you to show some skin on your backside, then you may want to hop on these!

I’m declaring this nude midi dress as the dress of the summer. It’s the casual dress. The run some errands dress. The sexy dress. The day party dress. The dress you need to throw in your suitcase just because you know it’ll get worn at some point on your trip. With that, you can only imagine the possibilities you have for styling. Heels, mules, sandals. A pop of color. Straight earth tones. Simple jewelry. Flashy jewelry. I guarantee you have something in your closet right now that would look good with it.

It’s made of a lightweight fabric which is great considering these 90 degree days we’ve had lately, but bad if you have anything against not wearing underwear or hair removal. No matter what kind of underwear you try, it’s going to show, and no matter how slight of stubble you have on your lady bits, it’s going to show. I had to wait until I had a fresh wax in order to wear it, otherwise I would’ve looked like a little prickly pear.

Next, we have the almost everything romper, but not quite the romper of the summer (I have another one up my sleeve for that). It’s still suitable for most occasions as with the maxi dress, it IS undergarment and stubble-friendly, and has the criss cross back detail that we all love. I have these mustard yellow lace up heels that I would love to wear with it, but of course neutral heels or sandals would suffice.

I’d keep the jewelry relatively simple since it’s a lot going on with the print, but I’d definitely rock it with one of my hats. Literally everything I’ve shown you guys so far, and the two-piece set I’m showing you next could be worn with a hat.

I haven’t been able to find a romper exactly like this one, but lucky for you guys it’s not hard to come across a floral romper with a criss-cross back and tie-front. Shein alone will give you several options to choose from, and Boohoo, which is where I bought the romper, has some alternatives that I thought were cute as well.

I’ve been a big fan of tie-front tops lately, and I’ll probably always be a fan of two-piece sets - put two and two together and it makes sense why I felt this set was a must have. It could be casually worn with sandals, but that’s really not how I’d want to wear it. In my mind, I’m thinking a neutral colored block heel and a petite statement handbag. Maybe a hat and big hoop earrings. Or no hat and statement earrings. You can play around with what you have and see what combinations work for you, but regardless, make sure you’re wearing the set and not letting it wear you.

What I have up next, casual isn’t an option, so I hope y’all are ready.

THE CATEGORY IS ORANGE.

Not only is this the romper of the summer, it’s the color of the summer, also. A literal show stopper no matter where you are. It’s showing skin, giving amazing quality, and worth the $59 (including shipping) that I paid for it. It’d be a look that I wear with a pair of gold or clear heels, a printed handbag, and gold earrings. If I’m wearing it during the day and the sun is blazing, I’ll most likely keep a fresh face. On the flip side, if I’m wearing it to a lounge or dinner when the sun has gone down, I’ll put on a little makeup. Not much because I don’t like spending a lot of time on it, but just enough to enhance my natural glow.

I did wear the romper back in April for Deion’s birthday which you guys may have saw if you follow me on instagram. I didn’t have the pair of clear mules that I envisioned wearing at the time, so I wore a pair of gold sandals. It was okay because the sandals were a little more dressy, but still not ideal. In a bit, I’ll show y’all the mules that I planned on wearing with it.

The final two outfits that I have are straight nightwear. There’s nothing casual about them and highly inappropriate to even think about wearing sandals or flats.

While still in the orange category, lets talk about this dress right here. It fits like a glove for one, and two, it has drawstrings on the side where you can adjust the length. Not the dress that you wear with block heels, so I’m going to need y’all to bring out the skinny heels with this one. Gold would be my first choice based on what I currently have in my closet, but a second option could be nude, clear, or even certain animals prints (such as leopard or snake print). Lace up heels makes me feel like more of a goddess, but a pair of single sole heels would work as well. Certainly, for the jumpsuit that I’m about to show you guys, I’d recommend a single sole heel over a lace up heel.

Another piece for my back-out lovers! Remember when I first mentioned that there’s always that initial social media ad that you see that prompts you to buy an item and you end up buying 10 more? Well, this jumpsuit was the one for me. I saw it on Facebook one day, and continued to see it on there until I decided to buy it. See how life works against you?

My first thought was how perfect it would be for a white party. The second was that I’ve never heard of a white party in Greenville, but if I did decide to buy it then I’d have it on standby for any occasion that it would be suitable for me to wear. I know a lot of people hate wearing white because it’s a dirt magnet (no matter how careful you are), but me on the other hand, I love it. It really gives me a chance to let my accessories shine and to mix and match them against a clean palette. So I could do yellow and blue, red and cheetah, light pink and hot pink - hell, whatever I feel like looks good because it’s not going to collide with my outfit.

Similarly to the nude maxi dress, it’s very lightweight, so you have to be very careful with what undergarments you wear, if any, as well as the prickly pear stubble down below.

I know there are very limited sizes left on Blush Mark, so I did find the same exact jumpsuit on a site called Flamingo. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how legit they are and if it’ll have the same fit as mine, so if you want to give it a go then by all means, but if it’s a fluke you can’t blame me.

Lastly, before I get into shoes, I have two tops to show y’all that will give you a lot of variety as far as what to wear with them.

IMG_0131.jpg

This top caught my attention because at the time it was $7 and obviously extremely cute. I could wear it with jeans, pants, shorts, or a skirt, and I could wear it with heels or sandals just depending on the kind of mood I’m in.

Same deal with this tie-front top; I can wear it with a variety of bottoms depending on the occasion and how I’m feeling, and it could transition into a Fall piece as well! I’ve always said that tops is what I lack the most in my wardrobe, so it’s good for me to have items like these for when I feel like I don’t have anything to wear.

I wouldn’t call this a successful haul without having a few pairs of heels to talk about, so before I wrap this up, let me show y’all my newest babies.

What you’ve all been waiting for. The beloved mules I’ve been typing about for the last 20 minutes. If you haven’t guessed already, the heel is 100% what drew me to these; they’re honestly the perfect touch to what I’d call an everyday heel. The height makes them easy to walk in, and the color allows you to wear them with anything. For $20, it was definitely a good buy. I bought them on Blush Mark, but the sizes are limited, so I’ll attach the same exact shoe which I found on Shein for a couple more bucks.

These are the perfect black heels in my eyes. They have the square toe detail, which admittedly took me a while to not think was a terrible trend, they also have the sculpted heel which makes them a little easier to walk in. They are unfortunately sold out on EGO, but I’ll link a similar pair for y’all here.

tempImage3R6L2P.gif

I’m just itching for the day that I can wear these. I don’t even have the look right now, but when I do, I definitely think it’ll be deserving of it’s own post. So sorry to break it to y’all, but they are completely sold out on EGO. I also wasn't able to find a similar pair to link. I would say if you’re really good at DIY projects, you could try to add some artificial flowers onto a pair of regular lace up heels. Personally, I don’t think I’d make it look that great, but I know some of y’all have really perfected your creative ability.

That’s all folks! Not a super large haul, but enough to keep you entertained for about 10 or 15 minutes, right? I know I’ve been completely absent on the fashion side for a while, but I’ve brainstormed several ideas that I’m hoping to start working on soon. Let me know your thoughts and what some of your favorite items were that I talked about - most of them are still available, so now would probably be a great time to get them since Fall/Winter lines are on the verge of dropping! That means the prices for Spring/Summer lines are dropping 😉.

Much love, my people.

Fashionably Yours,

DL
